DETROIT (AP) — Detroit hosts Green Bay to kick off the traditional NFL Thanksgiving feast with a critical game for the Lions in the NFC North race.

Detroit will be trying to snap a two-game losing streak that’s left the Lions at 6-5 and tied with Chicago for first in the division.

Dallas will be thankful if they get a home win today over Oakland that would allow the Cowboys, at a minimum, to hold onto a share of the lead in the NFC East. Dallas goes into today’s game against the 4-7 Raiders tied with Philadelphia for the top spot in the division.

Pittsburgh and the Ravens enter tonight’s critical showdown needing a win to stay in the post-season chase. Both teams enter the game a disappointing 5-6, two games back of Cincinnati in the NFC North, but still in contention for a playoff spot.

NBA fans will have to go cold turkey today with no hoops on the table, but the NHL has two games set.

Vancouver will try to break out of a 1-7 sllde when they visit Ottawa in a non-Thanksgiving Day game north of the border. Edmonton is at Nashville in a battle of two of the bottom four teams in the Western Conference.

And college basketball will be played. Second-ranked Kansas helps tip off the eight-team, three-day Battle 4 Atlantis basketball fest in the Bahamas. The 4-0 Jayhawks take on Wake Forest, while No. 23 Iowa puts its 5-0 record on the line against Xavier as part of the quarterfinal action.
